Seriously... 40 books?

40 books.  It sounds daunting.  When you think about how many books you read last school year, do you even come close? I bet many of you are wondering if this is even possible.  I'm here to tell you it is.  And this blog is here to help.

You don't have to give up your social life, quit your sports team, and move into the library for sixth grade in order to reach the 40 book goal.  If you follow these simple tips, I promise you the 40 book goal is attainable.

First, read every day at school and every night at home.  At school, you will have reading class at least every other day.  At home, set aside a time and place to read EVERY NIGHT.  This is your homework for Language Arts, so take it seriously.  Even if it is just ten or fifteen minutes, it will help you reach the goal.

Second, steal moments to read.  It can be difficult to carve out reading time in big chunks, so make time wherever and whenever you can.  Carry a book with you to all of your classes.  When you have down time or when you finish your work early, pick up the book.  When the teacher has to answer the phone or while you are waiting for her to finish helping another student, pick up your book.  When you're riding the bus, pick up your book.  During commercial breaks of your favorite television show, pick up a book.   I'll let you in on my stolen reading moments... I read while I blow dry my hair and when I brush my teeth.  Put together, that adds up to between ten and fifteen minutes a day that I steal to read.  I even have a little bookstand on my bathroom counter to help me keep my page.  I'm not kidding.

Finally, read books that you love.  Take the recommendations of friends, teachers, and family.  Read award winners.  Find book lists to complete.  Visit this blog and find books that interest you.  Do whatever it takes.  40 books is within your grasp if you put your mind to it.
